"Jesus was a Tantrik rebel on a pathless path."
According to many, the original Christian spirituality as practiced in the early church and by Jesus himself was a “tantrik spirituality”.
I’ve been reconciling my relationship to Jesus Christ with my path as a Tantrika.
I know a good number of others whom also embrace both, Jesus Christ & Non-dual Shaiva Tantra.
What else could be said about this? I believe in Jesus Christ, but I do not believe in “Christianity” as taught by the church. I also passionately believe in and embrace much of my studies & direct experience in Classical Tantra & Integrated Tantra—as well as my direct encounter with “the flood of ineffable light” which transmitted to me that this light may be calked upon as “the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ.”.
While exploring a deeply personal and mystical synthesis of devotion to Jesus Christ and the Tantrik path, here are some reflections to consider:
Christ as the Divine Beloved: In Tantra, relationship with the Divine is often intimate and direct. I see Jesus not just as a historical or religious figure but as a living presence, a Beloved with whom I have merged/experienced in ecstatic union, as well as in an NDE in 1989.
Inner Alchemy: Both Tantra and the mystical teachings of Jesus (such as those found in the Gospel of Thomas) emphasize inner transformation—turning the “lead” of the ego into the “gold” of awakened consciousness.
Gnosis Over Dogma: Did Jesus Christ’s teachings place value of direct experience (gnosis) over institutionalized doctrine? If so, this resonates with Tantra, which emphasizes personal realization over rigid religious structures.
Sacred Embodiment: The human body and sensuality are often rejected by mainstream Christianity — but the human body is honored in Tantra as a Temple & our senses are pathways to the Divine, or “Doorways to the Infinite.” Is it possible to see the incarnation of Christ as a profound affirmation of the sacredness of embodiment?
Jesus as a Siddha: In some Tantrik and yogic traditions, a siddha is a realized being who has mastered the inner sciences of energy, consciousness, and divine union. Jesus’ miracles, his mastery over matter and spirit, and his ability to transmit divine grace align with this understanding.
Holy Love as the Highest Tantra: The radical love that Jesus embodied, especially his teachings on compassion, forgiveness, and union with God, aligns with (my)Tantrik view that love and consciousness are the essence of reality. Jesus embodied and taught this supreme Tantra—not as a technique, but as a living transmission of divine reality.
Tantra is, at its core, a path of awakening through direct experience. Jesus’ teachings on the Kingdom of God within, radical love, and mystical union with the Father could be seen as the highest expression of Tantra—a path of ecstatic realization that integrates heaven and earth. — OM, Sharene Shamana Ma

A guide to the history and modern practice of transformative Christianity.

WITHIN THIS BOOK:
Reveals the original Tantrik wisdom of Jesus & the early Church and its resonance with the tantrik yogas of India and Tibet.
Explains how Tantrik Christianity views the human body as the primary “temple” of the Holy and erotic energy as the signature of indwelling Divine Presence.
Provides step-by-step instructions for a series of Christian (Neo)tantrik practices, including a partnered sexual practice, mantra and energy work, eye gazing, and work with icons
Offers a new understanding of Jesus as guru and master of left-handed Tantra, James Reho, an Episcopal priest and tantric initiate, reframes the Christian story and restores to modern Christianity the tantric wisdom practices that were edited out of church tradition and forgotten over the centuries. He explains how tantric Christianity views the human body as the primary “temple” of the Holy, with erotic energy as the signature of Divine Presence within. Rev. Reho reveals the similarities of the earliest Christian practices to the tantric yogas of India and Tibet and explores the role of Kundalini and the chakras. He details how to work with mantras, icons, and pranayama breathing exercises, as well as with gazing as a spiritual practice. Informed by the insights of ancient texts and early masters of Christian spirituality, the author provides step-by-step instructions on how to practice Christian (Neo)tantrik sex with a life-partner of the opposite or same sex.
Rev. Reho reveals how these heart-opening practices are rooted in eros, the life of deep desire, expressive of God’s grace within us, and are still alive in monastic practices in the Christian East. Integrating his personal spiritual experiences, years of study of ancient Christian mysticism, and an expertise in yoga and tantra, the author shows how we can re-engage the original truths of the early church to affirm the body as a holy vehicle and to utilize the energy of the erotic to achieve ecstatic union with the Divine.
